I’ve always been interested in trying out new gadgets when they first come out; it’s a hobby of mine you can say. Sadly there is one that slipped my grasp for a while now and I haven’t had a chance to test it out or experience it, the Segway. When it first came out it seemed to promising but was limited to certain areas, I thought about ordering it but it’s a bit pricy just to try it out and wasn’t worth it for me. It’s an interesting story how I actually got to ride one for the first time.

Living in Denver we have extremely cold weather and mountains, the terrain is definitely too rough to ride a Segway around here that’s for sure, which is probably why they don’t rent any out. One day I went out to go snowboarding on the mountains and I ran into a friend that I haven’t seen in 10 years, he used to be one of my closest friends and he was out on holiday here with his family.

While we were hitting some slopes we had a chance to catch up and he tells me he’s been running night clubs in Miami Beach doing great, I told him how ironic it was that he’s on holiday here in Denver when he lives in South Beach. I was on holiday as well but didn’t have any plans to go anywhere. He was going back to Miami in 2 days and told me why don’t I tag along and get away from the cold weather and hang with him at his house? I agreed immediately, South Beach is a place where I’ve always wanted to visit, great weather, sunny beaches, and world renowned clubs. I booked my ticket on the same plane as him, packed my stuff and we head out to South Beach. On my arrival I was in awe by the weather, they really undersell it on T.V and in the movies; it was a cool 70 degrees Fahrenheit with 0 humidity. He stayed on this wonderful house on the water near Biscayne Bay and I unpacked my stuff, we arrived around 7:00pm. He showed me around the city and we hit some of the clubs he owned, had a great time. On the way back from the club I looked through the window of this store called Half Price Tour Tickets and saw about 30 Segway’s lined up against the wall and thought to myself, “Of course Miami is the best place for Segway’s”. Segway Rentals in South Beach is what the sign said; I got overly excited that this was my chance. I told my friend about it, he said it’s pretty common to see tourist explore Miami on the Segway, he’s tried it a couple times himself, he said he was cool with the owner as well and that we’d go and rent some tomorrow.

That night I couldn’t sleep at all, I was anxious to ride one; I even had dreams about riding through town on it. We went first thing in the morning; the store looked really organized, it was like a tourist summer wonderland, filled with everything a tourist needed to have a great time in South Beach, even their tours looked promising. We ordered 2 Segway’s; it was like magic, a self-balancing human transporter. I’ve been missing out on so much, after our 10 minute training which was really have because I was too eager to get out and explore myself. We went to all the beautiful spots of the city, it was the most entertaining 2 hours of my entire life and I’m not exaggerating. I had so much fun when I went back to Colorado I purchased my own Segway, it’s well worth it. Segway Rentals in South Beach is what inspired me.
